Challenges & Design Briefs

Improving as a web designer or developer takes practice, and it can be challenging to think of new projects on your own. Here are some websites that provide design briefs or daily challenges that you can use to level up your skills or show off in your portfolio.

Brief Generators:

  • goodbrief – generates randomized design briefs for a variety of industries (technology, food, retail, etc.) and projects (logo, packaging, website, etc.).
  • FakeClients – offers free and paid design briefs. Allows you to post your finished project to the site for feedback.
  • Sharpen – a simplistic brief generator for branding, marketing, and products/UX.
  • BriefBox – a paid subscription service that gives you access to a collection of design briefs. Mentorship is also available at an additonal cost.

Daily Challenges:

Other Challenges:

  • Frontend Mentor – “a community-based challenges platform” that provides “the beginning” of a project, including starter files and templates. Complete the project based on the design brief’s requirements, share your completed project, and view projects that have been completed by others. Side note: Frontend Mentor has an amazing Resources page.
  • CodePen – weekly challenges based on a monthly theme. You can share your design and view other pens that have been shared. The best designs are featured on the home page.
